World-class Confrontation in the Mountains

Wanty-Groupe Gobert finished their spring classics campaign in Liège-Bastogne-Liège and heads to Aigle to start Tour de Romandie (2.WT – 25-30/04) on Tuesday. Our riders will face the likes of Chris Froome, Richie Porte and Rigoberto Uran. The Swiss stage race will be opened with a prologue in Aigle, home ground of the UCI. After that four stages on a tough course are on the program before finishing with a 18km long ITT in Lausanne on Sunday. Sports director Hilaire Van der Schueren counts on following riders: Thomas Degand, Fabien Doubey, Guillaume Martin, Xandro Meurisse, Marco Minnaard, Andrea Pasqualon, Dion Smith and Frederik Veuchelen. Our 23 year old French climber Guillaume Martin looks forward to the mountaineous Swiss race.

Guillaume Martin: “I leave the Ardennes classics with a disappointed and frustrated feeling. In Amstel Gold Race I didn’t have good legs, but in La Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège my form was on point. Unfortunately I was victim of splits in the pack in those races. I feel like I have not been able to express myself 100% and I do not like that!

I want to rake revenge in Tour de Romandie this week. It will be a difficult week, especially because of the weather forecast. We’ll have to go into warrior mode! We have a homogenous and complete team to shine in every stage of this event: Andrea (Pasqualon) and Dion (Smith) for the sprints, Thomas (Degand), Xandro (Meurisse) and myself for the mountain stages and Frederik (Veuchelen), Fabien (Doubey) and Marco (Minnaard) for the breakaways. We want to make up for our performance on Sunday by showing the Wanty-Groupe Gobert colours at its best!”
