Paris-Nice Stage 3: Sanchez Steps Into The Overall Lead

PeloPics: Spaniard Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana), crowned on the ‘Race to the Sun’ in 2009, showed he was still a force to reckon with when he seized the Paris-Nice overall lead at the end of stage 3 in Chatel-Guyon. The stage was won by his breakaway companion Jonathan Hivert (Direct Energie) of France. Another Frenchman, Remy Di Gregorio (Delko-Marseille Provence-KTM), who launched the decisive three-man move with 13 km to go, finished third on the line. The peloton, led by yellow jersey holder Arnaud Démare (Groupama-FDJ), finished 38 seconds adrift. Sanchez now leads stage 1 winner Démare by 29 seconds overall with fellow Spaniard Gorka Izagirre (Bahrain-Merida) third 36 seconds off the pace.
