Froome International Flandrien!
PeloPic: Win a couple of Grand Tours and you might just win the top prize of the year – The International Flandrien 2017. The yearly Flandrien awards took place on Tuesday in Oostende and Chris Froome (Sky) won the International title voted in a poll in the Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) won the home title over Philippe Gilbert (Quick-Step Floors), World cross champion, Sanne Cant won the women’s prize and Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel won the cyclo-cross award ahead of World champion Wout Van Aert.
Froome was unable to be at the presentation, but said this in a video message: “Thank you very much for the Flandrien award for the second time, from Het Nieuwsblad. It’s a very special award for me, and obviously winning it for a second time now is a huge honor, especially when I think back to where my career started back in Tielt-Winge in Belgium and to think now, I’ve won the Tour de France for the fourth time it’s just been an incredible journey for me. One day I’m going to have to come back to Tielt-Winge and see where it all started.”
