What's Cool In Road Cycling

Utah’17 St.4 Photo Report: High Plains Heat!

Tour of Utah 2017 Stage 4: Stage 4 of the Tour of Utah was another hot day in the saddle for the riders and PEZ photographer, Darrell Parks on the moto. The break might have stayed away for the win, but they couldn’t work together and the day ended in a bunch gallop.

You know it’s going to be a hot day when you see the soigneurs making ice bags at the start.

There is not much cover on the High Desert plains. No trees to hide under for shade up here.

The Rally Cycling team were on the front all day controlling the peloton.

The riders in the break were thirsty, but things were not working well.

The unique scenes of the High Desert.

Rally’s experienced rider, Danny Pate led the peloton through the feed zone.

Co-operation in the break was not going well.

The breeze gives an amber wave to the Utah grain fields.

Rob Britton (Rally Cycling) was making sure he would be well hydrated and hold the overall lead for another day.

What was left of the break tried to stay clear of the peloton when they reached the finishing circuit.

It was not to be as the bunch hammered into town for the sprint finish.

It was the Nolowesko-Citadel team who put their John Murphy across the line first in South Jordan ahead of Alfredo Rodriguez Victoria (Elevate-KHS) and Mihkel Raim (Israel Cycling Academy). Rob Britton (Rally Cycling) held his 26 second lead over Gavin Mannion (UnitedHealthcare), with Serghei Tvetcov (Jelly Belly-Maxxis) at 28 seconds in third.
