On what was expected to be a sprinter's day, the break was allowed to ride away to contest its own race. After a brave attack from Remi Cavagna, it was Alberto Bettiol who finished solo in Stradella for his first win in Italy. Egan Bernal had no problem holding his overall lead.

A high calibre group followed him home but a lack of cohesion ended their efforts. Over six hours of 'full gas' action gave the Italian his first win as a pro.
