PEZ at the Movies: Marinoni – The Fire in the Frame

Giuseppe Marinoni, a seminal figure in Canadian cyclesports, is still out on his bicycle but disappointed that he has to ride alone, due to Covid-19. Most people 82 years of age would be happy to ride at all but Marinoni, the subject of a charming 2014 documentary, put in 8,000 kms in 2019 and still has big plans.

With so many mass-produced carbon frames on the market, it makes a nice change to see hand-made artisan built titanium frames. Darren Baum has been producing frames, first in steel and now in titanium, for 24 years. Ed Hood heard all about it.

Roland Della Santa Remembered

If you check out pictures of the diamond in the rough that was the young Greg Lemond you’ll see the words, ‘Della Santa’ on the chest of his racing jersey. Frame builder Roland Della Santa supported the young future Tour and Worlds winner and continued to build frames for him right up until his days with Roger Zannier’s famous ‘Z’ equipe.
