Race Report: On a day which threatened to be overshadowed by the inclement weather conditions it was an Italian rider, on a Spanish team, who took the day in France. Giovanni Visconti (Movistar) rode away from his breakaway companions on the Telegraphe and despite concerted efforts from both the chasers and the peloton managed to maintain the gap all the way up the fearsome Galibier.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team worked hard once again, guiding sprinter Mark Cavendish over the climbs of the 254km Stage 13 of Giro d'Italia — longest stage of the grand tour — on Friday, and chasing down breakaways in the final kilometers to give him a chance for a fourth victory.

Race Report: Mark Cavendish provided a sprinting lesson to the others today with another masterful display. He followed all the sprinting rules of don't let yourself get boxed in, anticipate, react quickly and most of all - don't get dropped on the hills to claim his 101st win.

Race Analysis: It was beautiful. The solo break. One man alone on the road. Alone, save for 8 moto outriders, a race director’s car, a team car and thousands of fans of course. And yet, still, essentially, fundamentally alone.

An attack from early in the stage by a group of opportunists, GC big guns attacking late in the stage, crashes, bad weather, a change in the GC lead and mishaps and mayhem - Stage 7 had it all!

Maark Cav-en-dessh! He’s the king; and let’s not hear a word out of place about his QuickStep team, they drove the race all day long and finished the job off beautifully with Steegmans delivering a virtuoso lead out.

Race Analysis: There's not much worse in a racer's life than seeing the win just ahead of you only to have it fall away at the last minute. Our resident pro Lee Rodgers unfortunately knows a thing or two about this as he analyzes yesterday's dramatic sprint/man on man pursuit finish.

Wet roads, some steep final climbs and a late crash all played their part in what was an exciting Stage 5. Pre stage favorite John Degenkolb took the win but it was anything but an easy victory.
