What's Cool In Road Cycling

Henk Vogels: Back In The USA

Henk Vogels has done a lot in his cycling career with podium finishes all over the world including, Tour de France stages, world cup races, a win in the 2000 USPRO Champs, a death defying crash at 64mph(!), and two seasons with ProTour squad Davitamon-Lotto. This might be enough for most riders, but not for the Aussie fast-man, who’s ‘geed’ to be joining Toyota-United for 2007 and a few more shots at glory.

Frankly Frankie: The Worst of Times?

He had the guts to tell the truth about his own doping, but like they say in racing – you can’t win until you know how to lose, and 2006 has been a year of considerable ‘loss’ for Frankie Andreu. He’s not outta cycling by a long shot, and regardless of what some folks might want, he’s joined the anti-dope crusade big time. Frankie layed it on the line for PEZ with some frank discussion.

PEZ Interviews: Christine Thorburn

This doCTor was “in the house” at the worlds - Christine Thorburn is both a world-class cyclist and full-time Stanford MD. After a disappointing 4th place at the Athens Olympics, she was on podium in the women’s TT at the world championships this year in Salzburg. We caught up with Dr. Thorburn at the NorCal Tour of Marin.

PEZ Interviews: Antonio Cruz, Part II

Grab some coffee, rub your eyes, try and wake up from that post-Thanksgiving coma: we've got Part II of our interview with Tony Cruz - including some great stories from Cruz' big win in Europe in 2005 (Tour de L'Ain Stage 2), the 2006 USPRO Crit, his toughest race, his goals for 2007 and MUCH More!!!

PEZ Interviews: Antonio Cruz

Antonio Cruz has gone through an interesting change of scenes over the past few seasons: ProTour Discovery to domestic pro team Toyota United, and now for 2007 back to Discovery. PEZ chatted with Cruz about the changes, time at home, training, Basso, and his thoughts on some testy topics in Part One of a two-part interview.

Retro-PEZ: The Lance Armstrong Interview

A scroll through the PEZ archives turns up some good times and defining moments - like when Lance granted us our first interview. It was 2004 and we were nervous as a U23 in his first ProTour race... but Lance was cool and the conversation is definitely worth another read...

PEZ Interviews: U23 TT Champ Dominique Cornu

Any time a young racer racks up wins one year after the next, it’s a pretty good sign of what’s to come. Dominique Cornu won 4 national TT titles in Belgium and scored a 4th at the World’s in 2004 – until his breakout win in the U23 World TT Champs in Austria this year. He’s signed with Predictor-Lotto for ’07, and recently talked to PEZ…

PEZ Interviews: Bernard Thevenet

By the mid-70's Belgian, Eddy Merckx was well established as the "Cannibal", an insatiable creature for whom only victory satisfied the hunger. In 1975 a handsome, smiling Frenchman ended Merckx's reign of fear in one of the all-time great Tours.

PEZ Corners Chris Horner

He’s been one of the top American racers since he turned pro back in 1995, and after back-and-forth stints in Europe, Chris Horner has established himself as real contender on the continent. His best finish in ’06 was a win at the Tour of Romandie (stage 2), and right before he lined up to start his final race of the season, the Giro di Lombardia, we caught up with Chris in Mendrisio, Switzerland.
