Frenchman, David Gaudu got the better of Marc Soler on the tough final climb of the Alto de La Farrapona. The two had been part of the 'Break of the Day', but rode away from the others to fight it out for the victory. The two top men on GC, Primoz Roglič and Richard Carapaz, finished together.

After the efforts of the last two stages, the peloton was glad of a 'sprinter's day' to rest-up before the tough weekend and l'Angliru on Sunday. At the line in Aguilar de Campo, Sam Bennett who was too fast for Pascal Ackermann and Gerben Thijssen, but the judges decided that Bennett had tangled with Emīls Liepiņš.

VUELTA’20 Stage 5: Wellens Wins Well In Sabiñanigo!

Tim Wellens won stage 5 to Sabiñanigo on Saturday. The Lotto Soudal rider was the strongest in a leading group of three at the end of 184.4 kilometres. Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) finished second, ahead of Thymen Arensman (Sunweb). Primoz Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) was fourth and held the overall lead.

Sam Bennett (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) won the fourth stage of the Vuelta a España 2020. The Deceuninck - Quick-Step rider won the bunch sprint after a stage of 191.7 kilometres to Ejea de los Caballeros. Jasper Philipsen (UAE Team Emirates) finished second, ahead of Jakub Mareczko (CCC).

Dan Martin won the third stage of the Vuelta a España 2020. The Irishman crossed the finish line first after a 166 kilometre long mountain stage with the finish at La Laguna Negra. He was the strongest sprinter from an elite group. Primoz Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) came in second, ahead of Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers).

Primoz Roglič won the opening stage of the Vuelta a España. The Jumbo-Visma rider escaped on the descent of the Alto de Arrate in sight of the finish, and stayed ahead of what was left of the peloton. Richard Carapaz was second. Tom Dumoulin and Chris Froome both lost time on the first day.
