Simon Yates rode the time trial of his life to take the Giro stage 2 win, but it was Mathieu van der Poel, with the pink jersey on his back, who came so close to a two-in-a-row stage win by 3 seconds. Van der Poel holds the overall lead - Stage for Yates.
