Classic and classy, that's Twain's 'Restomod' – a steel Nishiki International bike from 1986 with modern 10-speed SRAM Red gears, 3T cockpit, Look pedals, Fizik saddle and HED Jet 50 wheels. Modern functionality with retro style.
Something a bit different this week: A full on time trial machine. We take a close look at British and World Transplant Championship winner Graham Strugnell’s Dolan Scala TT machine. Nothing off the peg here - Equipment selected for aero efficiency and functionality. It's fast and it looks good too!
We love it when Readers' Rigs alumni come back to the column years after their first appearance on Pez so when David from New York got in contact it was easy to say 'yes' to another Readers' Rigs feature with him - especially when he sent us in some pics of his ride, a sweet, custom made titanium Seven Axiom SL fitted out with Sram etap.
Time was first made famous by their clip-less pedals, but where the French company's artistry comes into its own, is their carbon frame construction. Brian in Folsom has a perfect example, his Time VXRs has that naked carbon weave with the bonded lug and tube system. Simply beautiful.
The late 80s was a time of Classic bikes and De Rosa was making some of the nicest examples of steel artistry. De Rosa frames were something special, Eddy Merckx rode them and Ugo De Rosa gave the Belgian star some lessons on the welding torch. Scott in Washington owns a fine example of De Rosa's work in Columbus SLX... Enjoy.
First impressions are not always correct. On face value; Mark's Factor 02 looks quite plain, but after close examination... It's a work of modern art. From the one piece handlebar/stem to the Enve wheels and the Sram groupset, and let's face it, that paint job is just stunning.
