To celebrate his fiftieth birthday, Richard from Sheffield in the U.K treated himself to a beautiful custom bike from the guys at Field Cycles that he tried to build up with as many local components as possible all the while keeping the bike modern, classy and sporty. Objective achieved I'd say.
Today we look at an iconic Readers' Rig. A custom steel bike, based on a Shimano promotional poster from the '80s. With the frame copied perfectly, the owner himself then hit the spraybooth to paint his creation with the result being such a cool bike that Shimano themselves bought it and now have it displayed in their bike museum in Japan!
Something a bit different this week: A full on time trial machine. We take a close look at British and World Transplant Championship winner Graham Strugnell’s Dolan Scala TT machine. Nothing off the peg here - Equipment selected for aero efficiency and functionality. It's fast and it looks good too!
We love it when Readers' Rigs alumni come back to the column years after their first appearance on Pez so when David from New York got in contact it was easy to say 'yes' to another Readers' Rigs feature with him - especially when he sent us in some pics of his ride, a sweet, custom made titanium Seven Axiom SL fitted out with Sram etap.
We have made another selection of what's new and exciting on the market: Customize your mask with Primal, Zipp’s Vuka Bull base bar, Rapha and Geoff McFetridge collection, Shimano SPD sandals, Scicon NASA collection and Award for Continental tires made from dandelion rubber.
Not before time; we have an e-bike Readers' Rig. John in South Carolina has sent us photos of his Specialized Creo SL Expert... It has the look, it has the power and for a big bike it's not that heavy. Is this the future for many of us that want to stay active, what do you think?
