Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung again played a major role in the sixth stage of the Tour of Korea (June 9 – 16 / UCI 2.2), as Dennis van Niekerk and Louis Meintjes rode in the break of the day and with their escape companions made the overall rankings even more exciting with only two stages to go. The successful move now places both South Africans in the top ten of the overall classification with van Niekerk 6th (+1’37″) and Meintjes 9th (+3’02″). Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung won the stage 5 team time trial of the Tour de Korea on Thursday. The result is the second victory for the African team after Kristian Sbaragli won the opening stage. The stage took place over 25.5 kilometres and Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung blazed through the course in a time of 35’19”.
With the Tour de Korea starting on Sunday and the Tour de Beauce starting on Tuesday, Team Novo Nordisk participates in two high profile stage races at the same time. This means that while one part of the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team has finished its race already, the other only starts its day having breakfast on the opposite side of the globe.
