Boom moves ahead thanks to good time trial

Lars Boom moved up to third overall in the Tour of Qatar thanks to a strong time trial today. The Dutchman of the Belkin Pro Cycling Team clocked 13:-39 minutes over 10.9 kilometres. He finished a second too short for the victory, which went to Michael Hepburn of Orica-GreenEdge.

Sam Bennett takes the white jersey at the Tour of Qatar

The first stage of the Tour of Qatar covered 135 kilometers from Al Wakra to Dukhan Beach, where the wind turned out to be the greatest challenge. Sam Bennett though managed to sprint into 14th place. This secured the jersey in the youth classification for the 23 year-old Irishman through a tactical coup in his first race for Team NetApp-Endura. OPQS to Tour of Qatar

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team has announced the selection that will participate in Tour of Qatar, from February 9th until February 14th. Returning to the race is Tom Boonen, who has the strongest history of any rider at Tour of Qatar with four GC victories, as well as 20 stage wins. Tour of Qatar— known for strong winds that leave the possibility for a breakaway as well as exciting sprint finales — includes five flat stages no longer than 160.5km, as well as a 10.9km TT.
