RACE REPORT: Julian Alaphilippe won the World Road Championship in Italy on the Imola circuit on Sunday after an exciting final two laps of the 260 kilometre race. The silver medal went to Wout van Aert who outsprinted a small chase group. Marc Hirschi snatched the bronze medal from Michał Kwiatkowski of Poland.
The Dutch team has again dominated the women's World road championships, this year with one rider - Anna van der Breggen. She won the time trial on Thursday and added the road race title on Saturday, finishing Solo. Teammate Annemiek van Vleuten was second with Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini in third.
Filippo Ganna won the World championship time trial for men in his home land of Italy. The time trial specialist was by far the fastest in the time trial of 31.7 kilometres, starting and finishing on the Imola circuit. Wout van Aert took the silver medal after a very strong ride in the second part of the test. Bronze for Stefan Küng.
Anna van der Breggen became World time trial champion for the first time in her career on Thursday afternoon. The Dutch girl beat Swiss rider Marlen Reusser into the silver medal position. Van Breggen's teammate, Ellen van Dijk, took the bronze medal. Top favourite Chloé Dygert had a high speed crash and was unable to finish.
