PHOOZY Apollo Phone Capsule – $29.99

Forget about the plastic baggie, the PHOOZY Apollo phone case utilizes a patented Chromium Thermal Barrier adapted from NASA technology to help protect your device from overheating in the sun, extend battery life in the cold, float if dropped in water, and provide military-grade drop protection.

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: PHOOZY sent PEZ both the Medium (interior dimensions: 6″ x 0.4″ x 3″) and Large (interior dimensions: 6.5″ x 0.4″ x 3.6″) Apollo phone cases. The spacesuit technology material (silver or gold — the latter is pretty bling looking) definitely has the look of something that would be used by astronauts.

The Medium (left) was the perfect size for my iPhone 14. But if you have a bigger format phone, you’ll need the Large (right).

As an interesting aside, PHOOZY was pitched on Shark Tank (season 12, episode 19).

If you’re like me, I’m just not comfortable carrying my expensive phone in my rear jersey pocket without some level of protection for it — both from potential impact and the elements. I didn’t test it, but PHOOZY claims the Apollo “exceeds the military standards by 2X to protect your phone from drops up to 8 feet.” To the touch, you can feel that there’s some padding to the case. Moreover, the inside is a soft/smooth materials (feels a lot like microfiber) that should protect your phone touchscreen from scratches.

NOTE: My iPhone 14 with a fairly minimal Spigen case fit snugly in the Medium size case, but there’s not a lot of extra room. Maybe enough for an ID and credit card — possibly a few folded up $$$ bills — but not much else.

What makes the PHOOZY Apollo different from other cycling phone cases is the Chromium Thermal Barrier. The outer layer reflects heat and UV to help keep your phone from overheating in hot weather. The inner layer insulates in cold temperatures to help extend battery life (PHOOZY claims up to 4 times more than not using a PHOOZY case). This video by PHOOZY demonstrates their technology:

The other thing that’s different about the PHOOZY Apollo is that it’s designed to float. NOTE, however, that the PHOOZY isn’t billed as a waterproof case and isn’t IPX waterproof rated. The closure for the case is velcro and isn’t designed to form a watertight seal to keep water out. So, if for some reason the case goes under water, your phone is going to get wet. That said, it’s probably good enough to hold up to getting caught out in the rain (but I’m not sure about a torrential downpour).

Pirelli Launches the P Zero Race 4S TLR Road Bicycle Tire, the All Season Tubeless Tire that Performs in Any Weather Condition

Pirelli presents the P ZERO Race 4S TLR road bicycle tire, the tubeless version of the Pirelli all season tire, produced in the renovated Milano-Bollate facility. The new all-round tire follows the success of the P ZERO Race 4S clincher version.
The new tire has remained aesthetically unchanged from the tube type version and incorporates new technologies and prior patents that capitalize on Pirelli’s experience in the high-end cycling sector.

Tread with All-Season Compound
The P ZERO Race 4S TLR, in fact, features a tread made with the award-winning SmartNET Silica compound, the same used in the CINTURATO Velo tire. A Pirelli patented mix of materials, SmartNET is a silica-based molecule whose configuration differs from traditional silica molecules: its elongated stick form has a natural self-aligning tendency, providing numerous advantages in terms of performance. Among these, the most prized for use in the all-season tire is certainly its natural chemical affinity for water, and more generally, with low temperatures, which creates a product with outstanding qualities on wet and/or typical cold weather surfaces.

Speedcore: Compound with Aramid
Combined with the external SmartNET Silica, the structure of the P ZERO Race 4S TLR is equipped internally with the innovative SPEEDCORE technology, which uses a layer of compound containing Aramid particulate. SPEEDCORE technology favours the hold of air, has low resistance to rolling and offers increased protection against punctures. This new technology was developed thanks to Pirelli’s experience in the field of racing compounds; it
was introduced for the first time on the market with the P ZERO Race TLR tire, also a product of the Milano-Bollate facility.

In the case of an all-season tire like this one, the use of SPEEDCORE technology makes the tire casing to roll smoothly and the combination with the SmartNET Silica compound – which favours grip even on wet surfaces typical of autumn and winter – result in a product to use all year long, with all-round performance.

The Tire with the “Racing” Feel
The new P ZERO Race 4S TLR tire is the perfect choice for those who want a high performing tire, for competitions or training, ideal all year round: high-performing and fast in summer, high grip and resistant in winter, with that “racing” feeling typical of the Pirelli “Race” family.

P ZERO Race 4S TLR is already available in 28-622, 30-622 and soon in size 32-622 too. It completes the line by complementing the P ZERO Race clincher tire and tubeless type – to match respectively with the SmarTUBE air chamber and P ZERO sealant – and the P ZERO Race SL TLR, the lightest of the P ZERO Race family.

Mechanism Pro – A New Calibre of Pro Cycling Apparel from Pas Normal Studios

Danish brand Pas Normal Studios introduces a new suite of performance kit with the completely new Mechanism Pro collection. The collection embodies the visceral intensity and attention to detail characterising the brand.

“Developing our Mechanism Pro line has been a task that has pushed us way beyond what we have done before. The founding idea was to create the ultimate second skin sensation. Mechanism Pro has forced us to completely rethink the fabric we use and how we make it all come together in the production phase,” says Karl Oskar Olsen, creative director and co-founder of Pas Normal Studios.

All fabrics used in the Mechanism Pro collection are proprietary stretch-woven or knitted fabrics.
