Cycology Tijuana Jersey – $99.95

cycology

Inspired by Mexican art and design with a cycling twist, Tijuana  Jersey delivers both style and performance with high quality fabrics ensuring you enjoy outstanding riding comfort every time. Constructed with lightweight high stretch fabric that delivers excellent breathability and ventilation to maintain a cool and dry body. Close-fitting without being constrictive the jersey has flat-locked seams for comfort and laser-cut grippers on the sleeves to keep them in place.

Three rear pockets and a zip pocket are perfect for storing your ride essentials and a rear hem gripper keeps the jersey in place. A full length YKK zipper makes it easy to control ventilation and reflective elements add security when the light begins to fade. With a striking original Cycology design this jersey provides all-day comfort and head-turning style.

cycology

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: Design and construction-wise, the Cycology Tijuana Jersey is tried and true don’t fix what’s not broken design:

  • Front panel that’s divided in half by a full-length YKK zipper (the gold standard)
  • Two side panels
  • Rear panel
  • Mock neck collar
  • Raglan sleeves (that are combination of hemmed and raw cut)
  • Silicon gripper on the back hem

cycology
All the seams are flat-stitched

The front panel and sleeves are more of a solid/opaque material. The side and back panels are more “porous” (a kind of micro-mesh) for venting/wicking and a little lighter weight.

cycology
The requisite three rear jersey pockets are hard to see with the graphics. The reflective strip (on the right pocket) hides the secure zipper.

Fit-wise, the Tijuana Jersey is what Cycology calls a their Performance Fit — close fitting using performance stretch fabrics that hug the body — and is their most popular jersey style. According to Cycology: “This is a close fitting jersey. If you are in doubt on sizing or prefer a slightly looser fit, it may be worth sizing up. We get more returns due to customers finding the jerseys smaller than they expect so that may be worth considering in your size selection.”

cycology
For the gram counters

On me (5’8″, 130 pound ectomorph), the Tijuana Jersey (size small — the smallest size they make in Performance Fit) was just the other side of snug. Still form fitting but not race fit. What I wrote about the Cycology Bike Graffiti Jersey that’s also Performance Fit:

The sleeves still hug my skinny arms (just not quite as tightly), but the body of the jersey doesn’t cling to me like a second skin. It’s not “baggy” but does have some small “flappy” areas. (NOTE: To provide some perspective, this jersey would’ve been considered race fit back in my racing days in the early/mid-90s.) That said, it’s very comfortable (and even though I wear a base layer under a jersey, the fabric is soft and smooth against my bare skin). I know not everyone wants (or can wear) race fit jerseys — so if you’re one of those riders, Cycology Performance fit jerseys are the ‘droids you’re looking for (I’m guessing they will be a better/more comfortable fit for a wider demographic of riders).

cycology
I appreciate that Cycology uses easily removed safety pins to affix hang tags rather than more typical retail plastic fasteners that have to be cut — something you would expect in higher end, more expensive kit

cycology
Not race fit, but still form fitting

The Cycology Tijuana Jersey may not be a ready for prime time race jersey (although the Cycology 8 Days kit I reviewed previously is a bonafide race fit jersey), but not every jersey needs to be. As much of my riding is just riding to ride, e.g., coffee rides with my wife, as it is “fast” riding (at least by geezer standards) with my crew. Not that Cycology kit can’t be worn on “go fast” kind of rides (and it’s a great way to stand out from the crowd, if you do), but — for me — it’s perfect kit for more relaxed/social rides.

cycology
The mock neck collar was comfortable for me, i.e., not tight around my throat

Of course, what makes Cycology kit different is the style. What I call the “fun factor.” I was immediately drawn to the Tijuana Jersey’s design that’s colorful but not overly “bright.” In particular, I love the different skulls graphics that evoke Día de los Muertos and bring to my mind the Day of the Dead opening scene in the James Bond movie Spectre.

cycology
Not pirate skulls

And as someone who went to high school not too far from the US-Mexico border (the San Diego area), how could I not want a jersey named after Mexico’s famous border town?

cycology
Not as long and as tight as  aero race sleeves, but not loose/flappy on my skinny guns

cycology
Not matchy-matchy, but Cycology jersey and bar tape that will get you noticed

And then there are these memories from my youth:

Pas Normal Studios extends its global footprint by opening Singapore and Munich Flagship Stores in September
Danish cycling apparel powerhouse Pas Normal Studios confirms its intentions for global expansion with the opening of two new flagship stores Singapore and Munich this month. The brand now has 7 flagship stores in Asia, Europe and North America.

      PAS

Pas Normal Studios continues to grow in a segment of the cycling market that caters to a technically-driven, aesthetically conscious demographic with higher-priced options. In 2023 it has made its intentions clear: ambitious goals for global expansion and growth. The Danish brand confirms this with the continued introduction of flagship stores around the world.

This past Spring, Pas Normal Studios introduced itself to the west coast of North America with the opening of a flagship store in downtown San Francisco. A highly celebrated store opening recently took place in the heart of Munich on Fraunhoferstraße 10 in a 180 m2 space designed by Danish architects OEO. While the doors of another Asian store, in Singapore, will open to the public at the end of the month. https://pasnormalstudios.com/pages/singapore

These additional openings bring the total number of Pas Normal Studio stores to seven: San Francisco, Copenhagen, Mallorca, Singapore, Taipei, Seoul and Munich. Pas Normal Studios intends to connect with local cycling communities through the provision of physical spaces to gather at for weekly social and training rides, to host events and serve as a physical touchpoint for all things related to the brand. The stores afford customers the opportunity to ‘try before you buy’ and take advantage of the support offered by trained staff in spaces that are Scandinavian-designed showcases of brand heritage.

According to Pas Normal Studios CEO Peter Lange “We are now at a point where our global range of stores ensures that we are reaching a wide audience of cycling enthusiasts. Our stores are designed as a base for the local community to gather for ride-outs and social events. The space offers a possibility to connect with the brand and displays our latest collections. Our stores are important touchpoints between us and local communities, gathering feedback that helps us continue to develop technical apparel and meet the needs of our customers.”

The latest addition, and the third store in Asia after Taipei and Seoul, is a Pas Normal Studios flagship store in Singapore, due to open on the 30th of September at 01-04, 107 North Bridge Road, Funan. An exciting line-up of events are planned in the lead-up to the store opening. The programme of local rides can be seen here in the dedicated Singapore Pas Normal Studios Strava Club on Strava, on the instagram profile and download the flyer here.

      switchback

Introducing Super Pacific’s Switchback X1 Camper—a spacious, adventure-ready truck camper designed to provide the best in class comfort in all weather conditions and for any adventure.

      switchback

Premium Build – 100% Made in USA

Built like an airplane, the Switchback X1 is designed to withstand the extreme stress and vibration of off-road use. Using aerospace fabrication methods, the X1 features precision laser-cut sheet aluminum and aircraft-grade rivets. This flexible and modular camper-system is customizable for a multitude of disciplines for year-round adventures.

The canopy portion of the camper which is called the Fuselage, is built from .080” 5052 aluminum sheet that is laser cut, break formed, and riveted together with solid rivets in their manufacturing facility. The clamshell that mounts to the fuselage and houses the tent is built from a combination of the brand’s proprietary extrusion and custom parts machined from 6061billet aluminum to their specifications. These parts hold composite panels that make the floor and ceiling of the clamshell.

The composite material used is common in transportation and aerospace industries and is built with exterior layers of fiberglass over a honeycomb polypropylene core that give them a great strength to weight ratio and maintain transparency for radio signals, so the clamshell does not interfere with over-cab antenna placements. All sheet metal parts are powder coated and all machined parts are anodized with a UV stable formula that was developed to survive UV sterilization in a medical setting.

      switchback

The all-weather tent is meticulously hand-sewn in Oregon with marine-grade material called Top Gun 9, making it one of the most durable and sophisticated tents of its kind. It is a polyester textile that is impregnated with an acrylic treatment to provide a durable, weatherproof finish. This fabric was developed for sail bags and dodgers that are continuously exposed to harsh maritime conditions.

The adjustable ventilation system creates optimal airflow and reduces condensation. Each vent has a rain fly that can be opened with a fiberglass batten from the interior of the tent to provide passive air circulation in all conditions. Above each door is a screened vent that can be opened for ventilation or closed to retain heat. The XL sleeping loft and functional floor panels offer many solutions for multiple occupants and furry companions. The bed platform is purposefully designed around the Exped Megamat Duo LW+ Mattress, among the most comfortable camping mattresses available. Unwind for the night and take in the scenery with three no-see-um grade screened doors and 270° views.

      Versatility and Customization

Adding versatility, the truckbed can be transformed into a full standing height space, better known as Living Room Mode™. By creating a dry and secure space in your truck bed, the Switchback X1 adds value to your truck as a daily driver. The Free Flow™ vent system is designed to give you control over temperature and condensation for the ultimate comfort level. The modular Molle Panels allow gadgets to be kept right where you need them – close yet out of the way. Universal t-slots are included: Awnings, cross bars, solar, you name it, the t-slots can handle it. More features include 3 zippered and screened tent doors, 3 locking canopy doors, a 3rd brake light, and cabside acrylic windows.

      switchback

Customization becomes effortless with the modular platform, adapting your gear setup to your changing needs. A mobile gear locker (commerical-grade canopy) is built in for secure storage and allows you full access from all sides. Personalize the look of your setup: you’ll have a choice of 6 premium powder-coated aluminum colors (Black, White, Grey, OD, Green, Tan, and Blue), your choice of 2 tent fabric colors (Grey or Tan) and either a Tailgate Acrylic window or Solid Tailgate Door.
