LOOK X-Track Race Carbon Pedals – $140

From the folks who invented clipless pedals the X-TRACK RACE CARBON pedal by Look claims the “best power-to-weight ratio on the market today“.   See that massive platform? That’s a pretty massive contact area which allows more efficient transfer of power from you to your drive train.

Pez Sez: “I’ve been riding these on a Look 765 RS gravel bike, and will attest to the big contact patch being easier to find when clipping in.  I also like the dimpled surface that adds grip for stability where shoe meets pedal.  There’s just something confidence inspiring about a beefier looking pedal.”

That bigger platform can also add comfort by reducing hotspots since pedal pressure is spread over a larger area.  That’s physics, and it works.

Look has been perfecting carbon for years now – allowing them to build a very strong pedal set that weighs in a 356 grams – and that’s light.  Tension  (+/-) is adjusted with an easy to reach 3mm allen screw.

The mechanics are top notch too with two sealed cartridges per side running steel bearings.

The X-Track pedals also come in 3 other flavors to suit your budget – the

Gnarly Nutrition

Gnarly exists to create the highest quality sports nutrition products for all levels of performance. Nutrition that helps push through the failure, amplify the grit, and celebrate life’s messy triumphs.

That’s where our passion lies: in progressing each athlete’s best, from the inside out. We are here for the long training runs, summit days, new PRs and every day in between.

Gnarly Nutrition’s Sample Box ($15) is an awesome gift for any athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, or fitness lovers in your life and allows you to try out the entire Gnarly lineup. You will get a convenient single-serve stick pack of all of the Gnarly products: Whey Protein (Vegan Protein also available!), BCAAs, Preworkout, Hydrate electrolyte powder, Performance Greens, and Collagen. Gnarly products contain only all natural ingredients, so you can feel good about what you’re consuming. They are also non-GMO, gluten-free, soy-free, and NSF Content Certified (meaning they’ve gone through independent testing for label claims and contaminants).

Alternatively, gift a subscription to any individual Gnarly product and you’ll get 20% off (automatically delivered to the recipient with 4, 6 or 8 week options).

Chuck Peña PEZ sez: I love Gnarly’s Fuel2O for longer days in the saddle because it provides both hydration and nutrition (200 calories) in a water bottle. I have a couple of riding buddies who have a harder time eating food to keep fueled during a ride and Fuel2O is a perfect solution. Two bottles are often all I need to get me through something like a metric century (but I still always carry an energy bar and a gel because you never know when you’re going to have a conversation with the bonk monster). For shorter rides, I’ll usually do one bottle of Fuel2O and a second bottle of Gnarly’s Hydrate, which has fewer calories but is laden with all sorts of electrolytes. I know taste is different for everyone, but I love the Orange Pineapple flavor — just the right amount of sweetness without being too sugary or overpowering. And a couple bottles of Hydrate are my staple for Zwifting or other indoor training sessions. Finally, noteworthy about Gnarly:

Gnarly has transitioned all products that were previously packaged in plastic tubs to new, highly recyclable steel tins — spearheading a movement in sustainable packaging within the supplement industry as the first sports nutrition brand to utilize steel cans for their products. Not only is the recycling rate of steel immensely higher than plastic (70% compared to 7%), steel is often pulled out of landfills with magnets even when discarded. And, unlike plastic, steel can be recycled indefinitely with no loss of quality.

Northwave USA and e11even Season of Giving

North American partner brands, Northwave USA and e11even, are both giving back during this holiday season. Both brands are donating 10% of all sales to a selection of hardworking charitable groups, allowing consumers to select from four preselected charities.

The four preselected charities have a reach from North America to the entire globe, and are all connected to improving lives through cycling;

“it starts with pablo

Pablove’s story began in 2008, when Pablo Castelaz was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms Tumor, a rare form of childhood cancer. After 13 months of treatment, Pablo passed away just six days after his sixth birthday. His dad then rode his bike from Florida to California to raise awareness, and while he pedaled the family’s community came together and opened a PayPal account. They presented it to Pablo’s parents with a $250,000 balance and the Pablove Foundation was born.”

People For Bikes;
“Since 1999, PeopleForBikes has created a prominent place for bikes in transportation, mobility and recreation decisions at all levels of government. We ensure bikes are prioritized and positioned as a real solution to improve Americans’ health, connect communities, boost local and state economies, strengthen our nation and protect our planet.

We accomplish this by being proactive and planning for the future, adopting a broad and inclusive vision for government affairs and making it convenient for leaders at all levels to take advantage of opportunities and legislation that prioritize bikes.

Together, we work with federal, state and local officials to make biking better for everyone.”

World Bicycle Relief;
“World Bicycle Relief was founded in 2005 by F.K. Day and Leah Missbach Day in response to the Indian Ocean tsunami. As a founder of SRAM Corporation and a leader in product development, F.K.’s role offered a unique opportunity to problem-solve with cycling industry leaders. As a documentary photographer, Leah’s gift for sharing stories helped bring the devastation of those affected by the tsunami to light. Together, with support from SRAM and other industry leaders, F.K. and Leah launched World Bicycle Relief to provide bicycles for those in need. In partnership with aid organizations in Sri Lanka, we distributed more than 24,000 bicycles to displaced survivors, providing access to education, healthcare, and livelihoods while reconnecting entire communities. Nearly 15 years later, more than 150 staff across 13 countries are changing lives with bikes.”

NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association);
“NICA Mission
We build strong minds, bodies, character, and communities through cycling.

NICA Vision
Every youth is empowered to be part of a thriving and engaged cycling community.

NICA Values
Fun: NICA inspires friendship, joy, and adventure.

Inclusivity: NICA believes everyone should be able to participate in our programs and feel welcomed, respected and supported.

Equity: NICA is committed to fair treatment, equal access, opportunity, advancement and elimination of barriers to encourage participation for all.

Respect: NICA expects consideration for all others, oneself, and the outdoors.

Community: NICA unites diverse people, families and communities through cycling by creating fun and welcoming experiences.”
