FIZIK Artica R5 Winter Cycling Shoe
Quite possibly the most robust winter cycling shoe I’ve seen – the Artica R5 from Fizik is both good looking and built to keep out the cold and wet.
The outer shell is seamless and water proof – except for the water proof zipper seam that runs up the front. It’s basically moulded into the shape of the shoe, and attached to the sole in what ends up as a seamless (again) one piece outer shell from top to bottom.
The zipper features a waterproof enclosure, and the easy to use pull tab tucks away nicely under the robust ankle strap.
Inside, your foot is wrapped in a neoprene sock-like liner, and cinches down with and easy to use pull tab on the criss-crossed lace. The neoprene makes a great insulator because it’s thousands of tiny pours trap air, creating and insulating layer around whatever it’s wrapped around. It’s not water proof, but it does breathe, so comfort is also enhanced.
The soles are a carbon composite, designed to be stiff & light, shaped with a slick design that looks like there’s nowhere for water to collect or hang around.
Reflective strips on the back light up when light strikes ’em.
The Artica R5 “Winter Edition Cycling Insoles” feature a fuzzy felt padding attached to a thing aluminum foil liner. The padding adds a layer of trapped air for warmth, while the aluminum reflects thermal energy back to its source – in this case your foot, to prevent heat loss. Available is sizes 38-48, for US $229.00

Castelli Perfetto RoS Long Sleeve
M 01 PERFETTO RoS LONG SLEEVE from Castelli Cycling on Vimeo.
The Perfetto RoS excels in almost any condition thanks to its full wind protection, great fit through hi-stretch fabrics, and best-in-class breathability. The jacket really shines in dry weather conditions but provides near waterproof protection if you do get caught in the rain, utilizing Castelli-exclusive GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® fabrics.
The Perfetto RoS is the ideal weight: without built-in insulation, you can layer over a light base layer for moderate conditions, or you can add a thermal jersey underneath and take it to very cold conditions. You decide. This is the one jacket that belongs in every cyclist’s quiver.
MSRP $229.99/€239.95

Castelli Sorpasso 2 Bibtight
Sorpasso 2 Bibtight from Castelli Cycling on Vimeo.
The Sorpasso 2 Bibtight is Castelli’s best winter tight because of its exceptionally wide comfort range and the amazing fit, stemming from the combination of Thermoflex Core2 fabric and a fleecy Themoflex.
The Core2 fabric utilizes an inner hollow-core polyester yarn and an outer nylon face, providing excellent insulation for cold temperatures along with better wicking to keep you comfortable when it’s not so cold. This fabric offers some wind protection, and when paired with an extremely stretchy Thermoflex fabric, the overall effect is a tight that offers optimal compression and seems to just move with you.

Grand Tours Project – Gift a Bike Tour
Escape your busy every-day life and ride with us. Challenge yourself on the most beautiful roads of Europe. Come alone, with your family or your friends. What is your Grand Tours Project?
“The best gift I EVER received from my husband, was a week-long cycling tour across Switzerland. It was a total surprise and I was not prepared for it – mentally or physically. I also had no idea what each day would bring – I found out on the morning of each day!”
“It was special and it was certainly memorable. Two weeks before departure day I was presented with my 50th birthday present. A new bike and the tour. To say it was a challenge is an understatement. I am not a-ride-everyday cyclist. I am not fit like many of my friends and I suspect that this was also my husband’s idea of a present for me and him!”
“But what a magnificent several days of challenges – fitness levels, mountain terrain, weather…good grief the weather! I think I experienced all the weather variables on this tour!! After the first day I was worried. By the last day I had conquered Bormio to Stelvio without stopping and I felt %^&* awesome! I am evidence that a bike tour gift by Grand Tours Project is a great idea and one NEVER forgotten. If I can do a Grand Tours Project tour then your ‘other half’ can too.”
