What's Cool In Road Cycling

Tour Insider: Andrea Peron Says…

From deep inside the TDF bunch, come the whispers and stories you might not hear, unless you’re at the Tour – or read ’em here! CSC’s Andrea Peron talked to PEZ after his Prologue yesterday…

PEZ: Andrea, how are you?

AP: Fine Dunc, This is my 8th Tour and it gives me goose pimples like my 1st in 1993. Plus it’s a great honour to be riding the 100th TDF. It’s always mayhem here a couple days before the start, press conferences, sponsor obligations and medicals but when we start to race, especially a prologue in the centre of Paris ,it all worthwhile.

PEZ: Are you happy with your prologue, as you are a kind of TT boy?

AP : Pleased yes,I finished 19 secs behind McGee, I had to give it all so to send info back to Hamilton so that he didn’t make mistakes. It was a Prologue which required strength and was very technical, cobbles which I had to re-launch the speed again, so for the strong men, like Ullrich and Armstrong it should have been perfect, but Armstrong’s result surprised me a little bit but we had done a little more than 6km and with 3500Km to go a lot can happen. Simoni was incredible, not a prologue suited for a light weight
so finishing just 13secs from the winner just shows he means business and has recovered from his efforts at the Giro and is in great condition.

PEZ: Thanks for your time Andrea, I know our readers appreciate your comments.

AP; No prob, it’s a pleasure. I now leave Paris behind me and I hope to return in 3 weeks time! Then I’m back to drink some beers with you Dunc.
