PeloPics: On Tuesday, Belgian Victor Campenaerts set a new World Hour Record on the Aguascalientes Bicentenary Velodrome in Mexico. The Lotto Soudal rider set a distance of 55,089 kilometres in one hour, beating the previous record set by Bradley Wiggins of 54,526 kilometres.

Campenaerts managed to break through the magical barrier of 55kph. “This is definitely the highlight of my career. I am really happy, I am also very happy that I was able to break the 55 kilometre per hour barrier. This is definitely the highlight of my career. And it will perhaps remain the highlight,” he said to Sporza after he finished.
Pre-start prep
Campenaerts covered a total distance of 55.089 kilometres. “And maybe I started a little too fast. Halfway through I felt that my starting pace was too optimistic. An hour has no secrets.”
There were not many fans in the velodrome, but they were keen
“At a certain point I managed to regain my pace. I had to stay realistic and take back gas. The last five minutes, I think, spoke volumes. I managed to accelerate again at the end. I was faster than Wiggins from the start. But it was very hard.”
Ready for the off
“I also have to thank my Lotto Soudal team. They have supported me all this time.” Campenaerts also thought of his former teammate Stig Broeckx. “Stig sent me a message that we are going to eat pancakes, should I make it.”
